WELCOME

Polish Rhetorical Society is an academic association which exists to advance research in the history, theory and practical implementation of rhetoric. PRS members represent a broad spectrum of research interests, with the focus on the relationship of rhetoric to linguistics, literary theory and criticism, philosophy, art, religion, politics, law, economy and other aspects of the cultural context. Our mission statement holds that the unique art of rhetoric bridges the borders of disciplines and fosters cooperation between scholars, regardless of their academic affiliation.

Polish Rhetorical Society organizes and co-organizes academic conferences on the interdisciplinary nature of rhetoric. The topics center around the relationships between rhetoric and other disciplines, such as history, politics and religion. They also explore rhetorical aspects of discourse, such as the structure of argumentation and the role of the New Rhetoric in contemporary discourse analysis. Proceedings of the conferences, together with other theme-related materials are published in the biannual journal Forum Artis Rhetoricae (for English summary see FAR). The Society cooperates with various scholarly organizations and communities whose interests include, in whole or in part, the traditions and techniques of rhetorical studies. For instance, PRS members have been actively participating in organizing the annual Oxford Debate Contest for high school students.
